Focus is how you equip an agent

A model that can only talk is a chatbot. Give it tools — actions it can call in your workspace — and it becomes an agent. In XSpada, Focus is how you grant those tools. Each Focus is a capability package: a bundle of permissions and behaviors tied to a domain (contacts, media, Actions, specialized builders, and more). Assign one or more Focuses to an agent on the Focus tab.

Two families of Focus

Context Focuses connect your agent to live business data. Builder Focuses connect it to creation tools that produce saveable work products during conversation.

Context Focuses at a glance

Contact Book Focus pairs naturally with Contact Manager. Actions Focus is different from assigned Actions — see the next section.

Assigned Actions vs. Actions Focus

Two ways to give an agent access to Actions. Choose based on how much freedom you want. Assigned Actions are curated and predictable. Actions Focus is open and flexible — powerful, but worth extra testing in the Lab.

Builder Focuses and artifacts

Builder Focuses let agents create artifacts — structured outputs that open in specialized editors beside the chat. Each builder type matches a kind of work product: See Working with artifacts for how artifacts are saved, versioned, and shared.

Combining Focuses

Agents can hold multiple Focuses at once — for example Contact Book plus Text editor plus two assigned Actions. That flexibility is useful, but each Focus adds tools and context overhead. Start narrow. Add Focuses when the Lab proves the agent needs them, not preemptively. Too many tools in one agent invites wrong picks and crowded context — the same reason multi-agent systems exist, but solvable here by splitting into two specialists instead.

Focus and the system prompt work together

A Contact Book agent with a vague prompt will still fumble tone and boundaries. A perfect prompt with no Contact Book Focus cannot look up a contact. Configure all layers that apply — see Agent skills for playbooks and Promote to team member when the agent is ready for Evolve.
