What Studio is for

Studio is a combined workspace for agent builders who iterate quickly on instructions and immediately see how the agent responds. Instead of switching between Builder and Lab tabs, you get both in one screen — prompt on one side, conversation on the other. Use Studio when you are actively shaping an agent’s behavior: drafting prompts, tuning tone, testing variables, and watching tool use in real time.

Layout at a glance

On smaller screens, config and Lab collapse into drawers you open when needed — the prompt editor stays central.

Studio vs. standard detail tabs

Studio does not replace Version History, Chat Review, or Artifacts — it optimizes the edit → test → edit loop only.

Typical Studio workflow

  1. Open an agent → switch to Studio from the sub-nav (or Agent Manager hub).
  2. Draft or paste a system prompt in the center panel.
  3. Assign Focuses from the config sidebar if not already set.
  4. Send test messages in the Lab panel — include edge cases and policy boundaries.
  5. Adjust the prompt; watch context usage if replies degrade on long threads.
  6. Save when satisfied — creates a new version.
  7. Optionally activate after comparison in Version History.

Params & variables in Studio

Open the Params & Variables drawer to set test values for placeholders without leaving Studio. This mirrors Manage Variables in the Lab tab — essential when your prompt uses {{customer_name}}-style fields.
